Choosing your first set of golf clubs is a crucial first
step to begin golfing. Having the proper set of clubs can

A basic novice set of golf clubs includes putters, drivers,
irons, and wedges. Only fourteen clubs can be used on a
course. Knowing which clubs to use and how to use them in

Putters are for close range shots. Around 40% of strokes on
a course will be shot with the putter. This makes putters

Irons are numbered one through nine, based on the angle of
their face. Lower numbers indicate steeper faces. One irons
are typically known as driving irons. Two Irons are
generally avoided by all but professional players. Three
irons are the longest irons available.
They have a hollowed out club head, which lowers the center
of gravity, creating a larger sweet spot. This makes three
irons ideal for new players.
The four iron has a shorter shaft than the three iron,
causing it to be more unwieldy. This iron exaggerates the
spin on the ball, which can cause it to stop rolling closer
to where it lands. Five irons are another good choice for
beginners.

Six irons are the primary choice of new golfers. They're
easy to hit with and have a moderate range.
The seven iron has a lower range than earlier irons. It's
ideal for low short shots, especially into the wind. Eight
irons are very consistent clubs. Neither their range or
accuracy deviate far from normal. Their lofted clubface lets
the player land the ball close to the pin with a minute
roll.

Wedges are ideal for shots that are just out of the range of
a putter. Wedges also come in a wide range of lofts, though
most are between fifty and fifty-two degrees. Professionals
generally carry two different types of wedges.
